Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Scottish countryside, just thirty minutes from Edinburgh is the 600 year old Lothian Castle where Mary Queen of Scots and Oliver Cromwell number in the guest list. An incredible setting for a celebration or a wedding so why not add your name to the roll call?
Built in the 15th century and steeped in history, this twelve bedroom property sleeps up to twenty-four guests, with spacious dining and reception halls for up to eighty guests, making it ideal for family time away, celebrations, corporate events and weddings. The castle has encountered many key personalities in British history over the years including Mary Queen of Scots and Oliver Cromwell, and great care has been taken to maintain the buildings authentic historical style while adding a dash of 21st century luxury for the modern visitor.
Lothian Castle features three incredibly stunning reception rooms, including The Great Hall, which can accommodate up to 80 guests for dining, The State Room, and The Garrison. All the living spaces are rich in beautifully carved, dark wood, colourful rugs and tapestries and sofas and cushions in sumptuous fabrics. The castle has a light and airy feel, and the shades of deep red, orange and gold used throughout add plenty of warmth; especially when paired with the beautiful open fireplaces and candelabras.
The Stateroom is an ideal space for cocktails, ceremonies and parties, thanks to its heavy dark wooden flooring and spacious layout. There is ornately-carved wooden furniture and framed mirrors, as well as lamps and candles that provide an intimate and cosy atmosphere, and The Garrison is ideal for relaxing in front of the roaring fire with the family, reading a book, or even playing the piano.
The bedrooms at Lothian Castle are all named after historical figures, some of which may have stayed there themselves, and are all incredibly striking and impressive, with solid oak-carved beds, floor to ceiling velvet curtains, and luxurious fabrics in shades of deep blue and gold, rich grey, plum and berry. The Cottage, which stands in the grounds of the castle itself features one double bedroom and one twin room, as well as a shower room – making it ideal for a small family group, or those who want privacy away from the main property. The twin room features incredibly beautiful hand-carved wooden bunk beds, with a unique carved staircase to the top bed. The Gatehouse makes a beautiful romantic cocoon for two with its four-poster bed and Italian marble roll-top bath.
Lothian Castle sits within one and a half acres of grounds, perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy country walks in total tranquility.
